Jennifer Capstick

Post-Graduate Teacher

I began my training in classical singing at the age of 15. At this time I also explored musical theatre and popular singing. Over the next few years I found my love of soul and jazz music and continued to have private classical vocal training. Throughout my vocal training to date I have gained ABRSM Classical Singing Grade 8 with Merit and LCM Musical Theatre Singing Grade 8 with Distinction. I received a BA (hons) in Music in 2014 from The University of Liverpool.

Throughout my singing journey I have performed in classical concerts as a solo soprano, sang as a choir soloist, performed with a musical theatre company, sang in operatic choruses, and performed for events, fundraisers, weddings and funerals. I currently sing in a Jazz Big Band and regularly play acoustically and endeavour to explore being a singer/songwriter. Though I enjoy performing and continue to do so, I love teaching above all things and I have taught singing in multiple environments since 2013 and continue to do so.

I have been lucky enough for my singing teaching to take me to America were I taught singing to children aged 8 to 17 for the summer of 2015. I have experience running Jazz bands, choirs and small ensembles and continue to develop as a professional singing teacher. My teaching style is very much based around the individual needs of the student and how I can assist with building confidence, releasing tensions, work with performance anxiety and prepare students for singing exams. My other passion is working with children and adults with additional needs and mental health conditions. I have vast experience supporting children and young people with additional needs and find music and singing such powerful tools to build positive, meaningful and valuable relationships. My current professional development has taken me to study a Master’s in Music Therapy which I look forward to qualifying in by mid-2020.

Singers with concerns of performance anxiety requiring a therapeutic approach to training would work great with Jennifer. She is a specialist in Classical and Jazz and is suited to singers of a beginner-advanced vocal level across all genres.

Any student's working with Jennifer will gain the opportunity to take part in our annual live performances every Christmas/Summer, along with LCM vocal exams.
